Principle #3: Be biblical.
One of my spiritual mentors in prayer, Armin Gesswein, often talked about the influence of “Uncle Am.” Uncle Am was a simple, uncultured man who prayed with unusual boldness and authority. Armin wanted to learn his secret to prayer, so he visited him for a time of prayer. Uncle Am invited him into the barn where he prayed. They climbed up to the top floor of the barn where there were bales of hay stacked up all around. On two of the bales, were placed two well-worn Bibles, a visual representation of the principle Uncle Am was to teach him as they prayed together, “Plead the promises of God.”
Nothing emboldens our praying more than scripture. When we gather together as a group to pray, God will bring scripture to mind. It can be quite amazing how various scriptures coming from different people will all come…
