What keeps us from finding “joy in the house of prayer?” What kills our joy? Here is a list of some of the things I have experienced that sapped the life and vitality from prayer meetings:

JOYKILLERS:
1. Long-winded prayers–
2. “holier than thou” prayers
3. people with their own agenda
4. when we don’t listen to each other
5. when we ignore the voice of the spirit
6. vain repetition…
7. Lack of Planning on the part of the prayer leader
8. Forgetting that you are praying in a group. There is a big difference between praying as an individual in a group…and group intercession….where we pray together as one group.
9. Praying without faith and expectation
10. Gossip
11. Preaching while you pray
12. Not praying attention to when you should pray through

Born and raised in Minnesota, I have served in churches in Minnesota, Ohio, Oregon and California. I am a graduate of Crown College (MN) and George Fox Evangelical Seminary (OR). I have also done additional graduate studies in New Testament Studies at the Center for Advanced Theological Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary (CA). I am also a graduate of the College of Prayer.
